Presiding judge Fabrice Rives condemned the remarks as "extremely worrying" and of "great violence," explicitly drawing a parallel to the murder of Samuel Paty. Paty, a history and geography teacher, was beheaded in 2020 by an 18-year-old radical Islamist of Chechen origin after showing caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed in class. The prosecution had requested a six-month sentence under electronic monitoring, but the court imposed a harsher penalty of immediate imprisonment. The father was taken into custody directly after the hearing.
