Tom Holland's latest outing as the web-slinger has swung past another historic milestone. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now taken more than $2 billion at the global box office, just three weeks after its release. The film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, has collected roughly $785 million in North America and $1.23 billion internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $2.022 billion.
That makes it only the eighth film in cinema history to reach the $2 billion mark, and the second fastest to do so. Only Avengers: Endgame got there quicker, having achieved the feat in a record 11 days back in 2019. Brand New Day took 21 days, according to studio figures.
A rare club
The list of films that have crossed $2 billion remains exclusive, and Brand New Day now sits alongside some of the biggest titles ever released:
- Avatar (2009) – $2.92 billion
- Avengers: Endgame (2019) – $2.79 billion
- Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) – $2.33 billion
- Ne Zha 2 (2025) – $2.27 billion
- Titanic (1997) – $2.26 billion
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) – $2.07 billion
- Avengers: Infinity War (2018) – $2.04 billion
The previous Spider-Man film, No Way Home (2021), came close with $1.9 billion, but Brand New Day has now surpassed that total by a clear margin. With its strong performance in European markets – including France, Germany, and the UK – the film has become a global phenomenon, drawing audiences across the continent.
Can it reach $3 billion?
Already the eighth-biggest worldwide release in history, Brand New Day is expected to continue its run through the holiday season. The question now is whether it can become the first film ever to cross $3 billion. While that remains a tall order, its current trajectory suggests it could climb higher in the all-time rankings.
In our review of the film, we noted that Cretton, who took over from Jon Watts, "does a great job in committing to the character's comic roots reset, making the stakes believable, and ensuring the emotion matches the spectacle." We also praised Holland's performance, calling him "the greatest on-screen Spider-Man" and adding that "all four of his solo outings prove how badly Marvel needs him on its roster of heroes."
As the film continues to draw crowds from Lisbon to Warsaw, its box office success underscores the enduring appeal of superhero cinema in Europe and beyond. Whether it ultimately reaches the $3 billion mark remains to be seen, but for now, Brand New Day has secured its place in cinematic history.
