With the countdown to the 2026 World's 50 Best Hotels underway, the extended ranking for positions 51 to 100 has been released, offering a first glimpse of the hospitality landscape before the main ceremony in Paris on 15 September.
Compiled from the votes of more than 800 anonymous industry experts, the extended list spans 23 territories and 40 cities. Europe is well represented with 16 hotels, nine of which are in Italy—the highest number for any European country.
Asia leads the extended ranking
Asia dominates the 51-100 list with 20 hotels, including seven in Japan. Among the notable entries are Janu Tokyo at No.52, Park Hyatt Tokyo at No.53, The Okura at No.69, and Palace Hotel Tokyo at No.73.
Europe's presence is described by 50 Best as a mix of "newly opened properties and long-established favourites." France's La Réserve Paris tops the European entries at No.51, re-entering the list after a year away. Other French properties include the Ritz Paris (No.72), Carlton Cannes (No.80), and The Maybourne Riviera in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin (No.93).
Italy's nine entries range from coastal classics to new openings. Il San Pietro di Positano is the highest new Italian entry at No.58, followed by Splendido in Portofino (No.60), Castiglion del Bosco in Montalcino (No.62), Orient Express La Minerva in Rome (No.66), Forestis Dolomites in Brixen (No.68), Borgo Santandrea in Amalfi (No.84), Borgo Egnazia in Savelletri (No.88), Villa Treville in Positano (No.91), and Reschio in Lisciano Niccone (No.95).
Beyond Italy and France, the United Kingdom contributes two hotels: Rosewood London (No.56) and Gleneagles in Auchterarder, Scotland (No.100). In Türkiye, the independently owned Maçakızı in Bodrum appears at No.76.
North America has nine hotels on the extended list, while South America and Oceania each have two, and Africa one.
