A 33-year-old man is scheduled to appear in court next week after being detained on suspicion of plotting an attack on two members of the Dutch royal family, prosecutors in The Hague confirmed on Friday. The suspect is accused of preparing an assault on Princess Amalia, the 22-year-old heir to the throne, and her 20-year-old sister, Princess Alexia, in The Hague in February.

According to a scheduling order published by the Public Prosecutor's Office in The Hague, the man allegedly possessed two axes with the words 'Alexia,' 'Mossad,' and 'Sieg Heil' carved into them. Authorities also recovered a handwritten sheet bearing the names 'Amalia,' 'Alexia,' and the word 'Bloodbath.' The details emerged from a court document, though a spokesman for the prosecutor's office declined to elaborate ahead of Monday's procedural hearing.

The suspect's name has not been released, in line with Dutch privacy regulations, and the exact location and timing of his arrest remain unclear. The Royal House of the Netherlands did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Previous Threats Against Princess Amalia

This is not the first time Princess Amalia has faced serious security concerns. In 2022, she was forced to abandon her student life in Amsterdam and move back to her parents' palace in The Hague due to threats believed to originate from the criminal underworld. Queen Máxima publicly acknowledged the situation at the time, stating that Amalia 'can't leave home' and that the restrictions had 'enormous consequences for her life.'

The princess subsequently spent several months living in Madrid, where she later honored the Spanish capital by opening a tulip garden in gratitude for the hospitality she received. In 2020, a man was convicted of threatening Amalia via Instagram, targeting the then-16-year-old and one of her friends.

The latest incident underscores ongoing security challenges for the Dutch royal family, which has seen increased protection measures in recent years. The case also highlights broader concerns about extremist threats in Europe, as authorities across the continent grapple with a rise in politically and ideologically motivated violence.

The procedural hearing on Monday will likely determine the next steps in the legal process, including whether the suspect will be held in custody pending trial. The investigation remains ongoing, with Dutch prosecutors expected to provide further details as the case progresses.
