Spanish police have arrested Jonathan Andic, the son of Isak Andic, the billionaire founder of the fashion retailer Mango, on suspicion of murdering his father. The arrest, confirmed by judicial sources in Catalonia, follows a year-long investigation into the death of the textile magnate, which was initially treated as a tragic accident.
Isak Andic, 71, died in December 2024 while hiking with his son on the mountain of Montserrat, near Barcelona. According to Jonathan Andic's initial account, his father slipped and fell approximately 150 metres from a cliff path in the Salnitre caves area of Collbató. Emergency services recovered the body, and the incident was recorded as a mountain accident.
Inconsistencies Trigger Deeper Probe
However, investigators from the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police force, began to question the narrative after detecting discrepancies in Jonathan Andic's statements and other evidence gathered at the scene. Sources close to the case told European Pulse that the probe shifted from accidental death to suspected homicide earlier this year.
Several Spanish media outlets, including El País and La Vanguardia, have reported that father and son had a strained relationship and were involved in a heated argument shortly before the fatal fall. The motive, according to these reports, may have been linked to financial disputes and personal tensions within the family.
Jonathan Andic, who serves as vice-chairman of Mango's board of directors, is expected to appear before a judge in Martorell within the next 48 hours. The court will decide whether to remand him in custody or release him on bail pending further investigation.
Mango, headquartered in Barcelona, is one of Europe's largest fashion retailers, with over 2,000 stores in more than 100 countries. The company has not commented on the arrest, but insiders say the board is monitoring the situation closely. The case has sent shockwaves through Catalonia's business community, where the Andic family is a prominent name.
This is not the first time a high-profile European business dynasty has been rocked by violent family disputes. In a separate case, a French judge is investigating the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, highlighting how family and financial conflicts can escalate into tragedy.
The investigation into Isak Andic's death continues, with forensic experts re-examining the scene and the victim's mobile phone data. The case has also drawn attention to the pressures faced by heirs of vast fortunes, a theme that resonates across Europe's wealthy families.
For now, the fashion world waits as Spanish justice unravels what may be a story of money, love, and murder in the heart of Catalonia.
