Kyiv endured another night of intense Russian bombardment on 11 July, as ballistic missiles and swarms of drones struck the Ukrainian capital. Ukrainian officials reported at least 10 people injured, including a child, in the latest assault that underscores Moscow's continued targeting of civilian infrastructure.

The attack, which began late on 10 July and continued into the early hours of 11 July, involved a mix of Iskander-M ballistic missiles and Iranian-designed Shahed drones, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. Air defense systems intercepted several projectiles, but debris and falling fragments caused damage across multiple districts.

Civilian Casualties and Damage

Rescue services in Kyiv confirmed that the injured included a child, who was taken to hospital with moderate injuries. Emergency crews worked through the night to extinguish fires and clear rubble from residential buildings and a kindergarten. The strikes also damaged a gas pipeline, briefly disrupting supplies to nearby neighborhoods.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated on Telegram that the attacks hit the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts, both on the left bank of the Dnipro River. He urged residents to remain in shelters during air raid alerts, which sounded for over four hours.

This latest barrage follows a pattern of Russian forces using combined missile and drone tactics to overwhelm Ukrainian air defenses. The Ukrainian Air Force noted that Russia launched over 20 drones and several missiles from the occupied territories in the south and east.

Ukraine's allies have condemned the strikes. The European Union's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell reiterated the bloc's support for Kyiv, while NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called the attacks a reminder of Russia's disregard for civilian life. The incident comes as EU accession talks for Ukraine and Moldova advance, with the bloc unlocking a sixth cluster of negotiations.

On the battlefield, Ukrainian forces continue to face heavy pressure along the front lines, particularly in the Donetsk region. Ukraine's top general recently acknowledged that a turning point remains distant as Russian forces intensify their offensive operations.

In response to the strikes, Ukraine has stepped up its own long-range drone attacks on Russian oil refineries and military targets. Ukrainian drones struck Russian oil refineries and the port of Azov earlier this week, according to officials in Kyiv.

The overnight assault on Kyiv also highlights the ongoing need for advanced air defense systems. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly called for more Patriot batteries and other Western systems. Zelenskyy stated that technical talks are needed before Patriot production can begin in Ukraine, signaling a long-term effort to bolster domestic defense manufacturing.

As the war enters its third year, the human toll continues to mount. The United Nations has documented thousands of civilian casualties across Ukraine, with Kyiv remaining a frequent target due to its symbolic and strategic importance.

European Pulse will continue to monitor developments in Ukraine and provide updates as more information becomes available.
