If Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez had tied the knot this past weekend, as numerous tabloids claimed, it would have been one of the most tightly guarded secrets in modern media history. The speculation, which erupted across social platforms, proved to be just that—speculation.

The Portuguese football star and his long-time partner have been the subject of intense wedding rumors since their engagement was announced in August 2025. In an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan at the end of that year, Ronaldo revealed how he proposed, describing a moment when his daughters witnessed the ring being slipped into his hand. “They asked me if I was going to ask their mum to marry me and I felt it was the right time to do it,” he said.

When pressed on a date, Ronaldo deftly deflected, saying the wedding would take place “after the World Cup, with the champion's trophy.” Portugal's early exit in the round of 16 left fans wondering whether the trophy condition would delay the nuptials indefinitely.

Rumors and denials

As the summer progressed, speculation intensified. Reports suggested the couple had booked venues in Sintra, near Lisbon, or on Madeira, Ronaldo's home island. A Portuguese TV show claimed the Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra was a possible location. Others pointed to a cathedral in Madeira and a luxury hotel there. On 28 July, Ronaldo posted a photo of himself and his children boarding his private jet, fueling theories of a destination wedding in the Balearics. It turned out to be a family holiday to Palma de Mallorca.

The media scrutiny extended to Brazilian singer Luan Santana, a favorite of Ronaldo, whose schedule was checked for a possible performance. But the couple's sisters, Elma and Katia Aveiro, poured cold water on the excitement. “There is no date set. This year I won't be wearing a wedding dress, not for myself and not for him,” Katia told Portuguese magazine TV7 Dias. Elma added that the wedding had been postponed and that she was not aware of new plans.

The couple's relationship began in 2016 in a Gucci store in Madrid, where Georgina worked as a sales assistant. They kept their romance private initially but appeared together publicly in January 2017 at the FIFA awards. Their family grew with the birth of twins Eva and Mateo via surrogacy in June 2017, followed by daughter Alana Martina in November of that year. Georgina has also taken a central role in raising Cristiano Jr., Eva, and Mateo.

The engagement was announced on 11 August 2025, with Georgina posting a photo of a striking ring and the caption: “Yes, I do. In this life and in all my lives.” Jewellery experts estimated the 30-carat oval diamond to be worth between €2 million and €4.5 million.

While the wedding date remains unconfirmed, the couple's fans across Europe and beyond will have to wait. For now, the only certainty is that the rumor mill is as active as ever.
