For those who find joy in striking up conversations with strangers in cafés, train stations, or piazzas, a new opportunity may feel tailor-made. Self-improvement app RiseGuide is hiring a 'Global Charisma Scout' — a paid position that involves travelling across Europe for eight weeks, logging interactions, and building a continent-wide index of where it's easiest to connect with people.

The role comes with a monthly salary of $3,000 (€2,630), plus all flights, hotels, and experiences covered. The scout will visit eight cities: Rome, Barcelona, Lisbon, Paris, Dublin, Athens, Amsterdam, and Berlin. In each location, they will score the local population on warmth, talkativeness, and ease of approach, eventually producing the European Charisma Index.

What the Job Entails

RiseGuide describes the ideal candidate as energetic, outgoing, independent, and genuinely fond of people. Applicants must be able to travel within the EU and live out of a suitcase for two months. A second language is considered an advantage, though not mandatory. The company expects the scout to document their experiences through video and social media, providing a candid look at how different European cultures handle spontaneous conversation.

The concept taps into a broader trend: as travel becomes a primary way for Europeans to make new friends, understanding where social barriers are lowest could be valuable for both tourists and locals. The index may also serve as a practical guide for solo travellers or those looking to combat loneliness — a growing concern across the continent, as highlighted by group travel companies like WeRoad, which positions itself as a cure for Europe's loneliness crisis.

How to Apply

Applications are open now. Candidates must submit a CV along with a three- to four-minute video explaining why they would excel as a Global Charisma Scout. The application also asks for links to public social media profiles, such as Instagram or TikTok, suggesting that the company values a strong online presence to share the journey.

While the job may sound like a dream for extroverts, it also raises questions about the nature of sociability across Europe. In cities like Paris or Berlin, where cultural norms around approaching strangers can differ sharply from those in Lisbon or Athens, the scout's subjective ratings will inevitably reflect personal bias. Still, the project offers a playful yet systematic attempt to quantify something as elusive as charisma — and to map it across the continent's diverse urban landscapes.

For those ready to pack a suitcase and start conversations, this might be the summer job that turns small talk into a career.
