Luxury cruise operator Silversea has announced a new partnership with PerryGolf, a specialist in international golf travel, to offer a series of golf-focused voyages beginning in 2027. The itineraries aim to combine the comfort of Silversea's ships with access to some of the world's most celebrated courses, from the British Isles to the Mediterranean and Australasia.
Themed cruises are not new, but the growing demand for active and wellness-oriented travel has prompted several lines to expand beyond traditional offerings. Silversea's golf collection joins a trend that includes Formula 1-themed packages from MSC Cruises and its luxury brand Explora Journeys, as well as Game of Thrones cruises in Croatia. The new golf itineraries, however, target a niche that blends sport with cultural exploration.
Courses and Itineraries
The voyages will feature play at courses such as Royal Liverpool Golf Club in England, a 13-time host of the Open Championship; Prince's Golf Club in Kent; Portstewart Golf Club's Strand Course in Northern Ireland; and Cabot Highlands – Castle Stuart Golf Links and Dumbarnie Links in Scotland. In Spain, golfers can tee off at Camiral Stadium Course, a future Ryder Cup venue, as well as Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, Son Gual Golf Mallorca, and Club de Golf Alcanada. The Australasian leg includes Tasmania Golf Club, Otago Golf Club, Royal Wellington Golf Club, Cape Kidnappers Golf Course, and Kauri Cliffs Golf Course in New Zealand.
“Silversea is built on giving guests access to experiences that go beyond what most travel can offer,” said Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea. “Our partnership with PerryGolf extends that standard to golf – placing guests on some of the world's most celebrated courses, with every detail managed and every comfort included.”
Each golf package includes guaranteed tee times, green fees, luxury transfers between ship and course, lunch and refreshments at each venue, and access to practice facilities and range balls at select courses. The cruises are designed to allow passengers to explore culturally rich destinations while enjoying their sport.
British Isles Voyage
A round-trip from Southampton aboard the Silver Spirit, scheduled from 14 to 25 August 2027, will showcase the British Isles' golfing heritage. After starting at Royal Liverpool, the journey continues to Prince's Golf Club in Kent, then crosses to Northern Ireland for the dunes of Portstewart, and concludes in Scotland with rounds at Castle Stuart and Dumbarnie Links.
Mediterranean Itinerary
From 25 October to 3 November 2027, a Barcelona-to-Barcelona round-trip on the Silver Ray will highlight continental Europe's best courses. It begins at Camiral's Stadium Course, then moves to Las Colinas on Spain's southeastern coast, followed by Son Gual and Alcanada on Mallorca. This itinerary offers a blend of coastal scenery and championship-level golf.
Australasian Journey
The longest voyage, a 14-day Sydney-to-Auckland sailing on the Silver Moon from 29 January to 12 February 2028, will explore courses across Australia and New Zealand. It starts at Tasmania Golf Club, then moves to Otago Golf Club and Royal Wellington in New Zealand, with additional rounds at Cape Kidnappers and Kauri Cliffs.
While the cruises promise luxury and convenience, the broader cruise industry faces scrutiny over environmental impacts and overtourism. A recent study highlighted how cruise ships benefit from tax breaks despite contributing to pollution and congestion in popular ports. Meanwhile, destinations like Barcelona have proposed a daily tax on short-stay cruise passengers to manage visitor numbers. Silversea's new offerings, however, target a high-end market that may be less affected by such concerns.
For golf enthusiasts seeking a combination of luxury travel and world-class courses, these itineraries represent a curated option. The partnership with PerryGolf ensures that logistics are handled, allowing guests to focus on the game and the destinations.
