Ukrainian forces carried out large-scale strikes on central Russia overnight, hitting two major logistics facilities in the Moscow and Tambov regions, according to statements from Kyiv and local Russian authorities. The attacks, which also targeted an oil facility, mark the latest escalation in Ukraine's campaign to disrupt Russian military supply chains deep inside the country.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the strikes on Saturday, describing them as part of Kyiv's "long-range sanctions" against Russia. "The aggressor used them to supply sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment," he wrote on social media, adding that an oil facility was also hit.

Drone Swarm Over Moscow

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that 370 drones were heading toward the Moscow region. He claimed local air defences "neutralised" most of them, with 64 destroyed. Euronews has not independently verified these figures.

Video footage circulating on social media appears to show a large fire at the site of one strike, reportedly a warehouse operated by Wildberries, the Russian online retailer founded by billionaire Tatyana Kim.

Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukrainian logistics facilities, including sorting hubs operated by Nova Poshta, a private mail and courier service. In June, Nova Poshta CEO Yevhen Tafiichuk said a Russian missile attack had destroyed the company's "largest and most innovative terminal."

The Ukrainian air force said Russia launched 90 attack drones and seven missiles at Ukraine overnight, particularly targeting the Odesa region. As of Saturday morning, local air defences had intercepted one missile and 69 drones. A separate drone attack on Kherson injured at least nine people, according to the Kherson Oblast Military Administration.

Fuel Crisis in Occupied Territories

Ukraine has intensified its long-range strikes on Russian industrial and energy sites in recent months, especially oil refineries and depots. These attacks have contributed to a fuel crisis across large parts of Russia and Russian-occupied territories, with locals facing petrol shortages and rising prices.

The strikes come amid broader political tensions in Ukraine. Ukrainians staged a rare wartime protest after President Zelenskyy dismissed a popular defence minister, highlighting internal strains even as the war continues.

Meanwhile, European Union efforts to tighten sanctions on Russian energy have faced hurdles. Greece blocked EU sanctions on Russian LNG, demanding a transit exemption, underscoring the difficulty of maintaining a united front against Moscow.
