In May, Zannier Hotels opened Zannier Île de Bendor, a 93-key private island retreat off the coast of Bandol in Provence. The project, which emerged after a five-year transformation of the island's deteriorating infrastructure, reimagines holistic wellbeing through bioresonance technology—a method that maps the body's energetic and physiological state to create personalised treatment, movement, and nutrition plans.

Bendor Island was purchased in 1950 by French entrepreneur Paul Ricard, who envisioned it as a social and cultural hub where locals, families, and celebrities could escape daily life and immerse themselves in the Mediterranean. Ricard's philosophy of "nul bien sans peine" ("no pain no gain") inspired the retreat's approach: each stay begins with a bioresonance session to assess stress, energy, and overall balance, guiding guests toward a unique wellness programme.

Three Distinct Stay Experiences

The hotel's 93 keys are spread across three styles of accommodation along the harbour. The five two-storey Madrague Houses, converted from fishermen's cottages, combine Provençal charm with rustic simplicity. Each house accommodates two adults and features a lounge, a king-sized bed upstairs, and a private garden.

For those seeking nostalgia, the Delos rooms and suites evoke the 1960s South of France—its refinement, glamour, and vibrant atmosphere. The Delos Suite offers panoramic sea views from its terrace, with an open-plan area housing a king-sized bed and sofa bed for up to three adults and a baby. The Delos Harbour Suite provides a private terrace overlooking Bendor harbour, while smaller Delos Rooms in the historic Delos & Cloitre area are designed for two adults.

The Soukana suites and rooms, located near the wellness centre and Neptune's Garden, focus on reconnection and relaxation. The Family Suite accommodates four adults and a baby, the Terrace Suite three adults and a baby, and the Sunrise Room two adults. A night's stay in August starts from €815, excluding city tax.

Five Tailored Wellness Programmes

After the initial consultation, guests choose from five signature programmes. Élise Rimbaud, Naturopath & Wellness Director at Zannier Île de Bendor, explained: "Each guest is unique and must learn to tap into the body's own resources. The bioresonance scan provides a mirror for the body's energy, guiding each personalised path. This is why we named our wellness philosophy Rēsonance. It reflects the layers of insight, balance, and awareness."

The Florea – Digestive Harmony programme combines abdominal massage, reflexology, naturopathy consultation, and workshops in castor oil therapy and abdominal breathing to support the microbiome. Serena – The Art of Letting Go offers an immersive water-based experience called Aqua Rēsonance, paired with botanical massage, sound healing, and Qigong. Harmonia – Hormonal Vitality & Balance uses somatic practices and specialist therapies for an inclusive approach. Maestria – Energetic Awakening targets fitness enthusiasts with sports massage, deep tissue therapy, osteopathy, and cryotherapy, alongside nutritional guidance. Lumea – Skin Within focuses on facials, LED therapy, and full-body treatments for a radiant complexion.

Dining and Replenishment

Guests can dine at Le Grand Large, a gourmet restaurant overlooking the sea, offering five- and seven-course menus curated by Chef Lucas Antoniotti. For casual dining, Nonna Beach provides all-day Mediterranean fare by the shore. The retreat also features a wellness centre with a pool and Neptune's Garden, a landscaped area for relaxation.

Arnaud Zannier, the hotel's founder, described the Rēsonance approach as a way to "empower guests to connect deeply with their own body energy. It is a journey of self-awareness and subtle transformation, providing tools and guidance so individuals can understand and restore balance, wherever they are in life."

For those interested in broader European wellness trends, the retreat's focus on personalised, technology-driven health mirrors innovations seen in other luxury destinations across the continent. Meanwhile, the island's transformation from a deteriorating hub to a high-end retreat reflects ongoing investments in France's tourism infrastructure, a sector that continues to attract global attention.
