On 12 August 2026, a total solar eclipse will sweep across parts of Europe and the North Atlantic, plunging cities into darkness for up to two minutes. For those with a substantial budget, Meliá Hotels International has crafted an ultra-exclusive travel package to the Balearic Islands that promises a front-row seat to the celestial event.

The Spanish hospitality group is offering the experience at two of its properties: Hotel de Mar, a Gran Meliá Hotel in Mallorca, and Villa le Blanc Gran Meliá in Menorca. Each package is limited to a single booking, priced from €200,000 per journey. The trip includes private jet transfers from European destinations, a four-night stay in the hotel's most prestigious suite—including the Presidential Suite—and a chauffeur-driven vehicle available around the clock.

Private Jet, Yacht, and Eclipse Kit

Guests will begin their journey with a luxury transfer from home to the airport, where a private jet awaits with a dedicated flight attendant and premium catering. Upon arrival in the Balearics, they will be whisked to the hotel. The highlight of the trip occurs on 12 August, when guests will view the total solar eclipse from the sea: in Mallorca aboard a private Riva yacht, or in Menorca on a traditional Menorcan llaüt. The experience includes bespoke catering, premium refreshments, and a curated eclipse kit.

According to the European Space Agency, the path of totality will cross Greenland, Iceland, Spain, and a small area of northeastern Portugal. Spain will experience the largest area of totality in Europe, with favourable viewing conditions as the eclipse moves from west to east over the Balearic Islands. This marks the first time in over a century that the total eclipse can be observed from Spanish soil.

While the Meliá package is aimed at the ultra-wealthy, other options for eclipse chasers include a rave with Björk in Iceland, cruises, and historic train rides. The 2026 eclipse is also a precursor to the predicted “eclipse of the century” in 2027.

Meliá’s offering underscores a growing trend in luxury travel, where rare natural phenomena are paired with exclusive hospitality. For context, Portugal has seen its ultra-wealthy population surge by 50% in five years, as reported in Portugal's Ultra-Wealthy Population Surges by 50% in Five Years, highlighting the region's appeal to high-net-worth individuals.

As the brand states, a “phenomenon this rare” deserves an experience “equally extraordinary.” For those with €200,000 to spare, this eclipse trip offers a unique blend of luxury and astronomy in the heart of the Mediterranean.
