For travellers planning group holidays, the choice between hotels and self-catering rentals often comes down to space, privacy, and amenities. Vrbo, the vacation rental platform, has released its 2026 Holiday Homes of the Year, a curated selection of properties across Europe that meet high standards for location, host reliability, and group-friendly features.
First published in 2021, the annual list evaluates homes based on booking acceptance rates, host cancellation records, and the presence of amenities such as pools, hot tubs, or game rooms. To qualify, each property must rank in the top 10% of rentals in its destination by guest reviews.
“This year’s list reflects just how far traveller expectations have evolved and how our partners continue to rise to the occasion,” said Tim Rosolio, vice president of vacation rental partnerships at Vrbo. “From unique design and standout amenities to the small, thoughtful touches that build trust, these homes deliver the kind of exceptional experiences that today’s travellers don’t just appreciate, they expect.”

Horseback riding is also available nearby.

Mykonos, Greece: Villa Melangio
Overlooking Ornos Bay, Villa Melangio is a six-bedroom Cycladic-style property with a fresh-water private pool, multiple terraces, and a flower-filled garden. Located six kilometres from Mykonos airport and five kilometres from the town centre, it offers a balance of seclusion and access to nightlife and dining.
Tuscany, Italy: Villa Torre
For a classic Italian countryside retreat, Villa Torre in Tuscany dates back to the 16th century. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, the historic home sleeps 18 and provides a serene base for exploring the region’s wine routes and medieval towns.
These properties reflect a broader trend in European travel: the growing demand for high-quality, self-contained accommodations that cater to extended families or friend groups. As cities like Valencia impose caps on holiday rentals to address housing shortages, the appeal of rural and coastal villas may increase. Meanwhile, platforms like Vrbo continue to refine their offerings, focusing on trust and experience.
