Hilton has entered the cave hotel market in Turkey with the opening of Elika Cave Suites Cappadocia, a Curio Collection property located next to the iconic Ortahisar Castle. The hotel, the brand's first carved into the region's famous rock formations, aims to blend local heritage with modern luxury.

Cappadocia, a UNESCO World Heritage site in central Anatolia, draws visitors for its fairy chimneys, underground cities, and sunrise hot air balloon rides. The new hotel sits in Ortahisar, a town known for its massive castle carved into a rock outcrop, offering guests direct access to one of the area's most recognizable landmarks.

Design and Accommodations

Each of the 36 rooms at Elika Cave Suites is individually designed, shaped by the original cave structure. Guests can choose from rooms with private pools, whirlpool baths, terraces, or hot tubs. The Elika Villa includes a Turkish bath and sauna, providing a more exclusive experience.

The hotel's spa features two treatment rooms, a hammam, steam room, sauna, and rain shower, along with an outdoor pool. This focus on wellness aligns with broader trends in European hospitality, where properties increasingly emphasize holistic experiences. For comparison, France recently named 33 palace hotels for 2026, adding six new luxury properties that similarly prioritize spa and wellness amenities.

“Our objective was to preserve the region’s heritage while offering contemporary comfort and one-of-a-kind moments formed by local identity and a global perspective,” said Nilüfer Durukan, general manager of Elika Cave Suites Cappadocia. “Here, history is not only seen but experienced, becoming part of each guest’s journey.”

The hotel's integration into the cave structure required careful planning to maintain the integrity of the rock while installing modern plumbing, electricity, and climate control. This engineering challenge is reminiscent of other European hotel projects that adapt historic buildings, such as the Baltic Sea's largest hotel in Poland, which opened with only 500 of its 1,240 rooms ready due to similar renovation complexities.

Cappadocia's cave hotels have become a staple of the region's tourism, offering a unique accommodation experience that cannot be replicated elsewhere. Elika Cave Suites joins a competitive market, but its location next to Ortahisar Castle and Hilton's global distribution network give it a distinct advantage.

The hotel's opening comes as Turkey continues to recover its tourism sector, with international arrivals approaching pre-pandemic levels. European travelers, particularly from Germany, the UK, and France, remain key markets for Cappadocia. The region's appeal extends beyond hot air balloon rides; hiking through valleys, exploring underground cities like Derinkuyu, and visiting rock-cut churches in Göreme Open Air Museum are major draws.

For those seeking a more secluded experience, the Elika Villa offers a private Turkish bath and sauna, allowing guests to unwind after a day of exploration. The hotel's spa also provides traditional hammam treatments, steam rooms, and rain showers, catering to both relaxation and cultural immersion.

While the hotel is a significant addition to Cappadocia's accommodation landscape, it also reflects a broader trend in European travel: the desire for authentic, locally rooted experiences that do not sacrifice comfort. As more travelers seek out unique stays, properties like Elika Cave Suites are likely to become benchmarks for the region.
