For anyone who has sprinted through Frankfurt Airport or nervously watched the clock at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, the stress of a tight connection is all too familiar. A few minutes of delay can turn a routine transfer into a race against time. Flighty, a popular flight-tracking app, has introduced a new feature designed to take the guesswork out of these moments.

The connection assistant creates a step-by-step guide for what travelers need to do between flights—clearing security, reclaiming and rechecking bags, or moving between terminals—and provides typical durations for each task. Users can input their booking class and citizenship, allowing the app to estimate passport control wait times, including whether they can use e-gates at airports like Amsterdam Schiphol or London Heathrow.

The standout element is gate prediction. By analyzing historical gate data for a given flight, Flighty can forecast arrival and departure gates down to the concourse or gate range. On the day of travel, it can even predict the exact gate. (Travelers should still verify this on airport screens, as last-minute changes are common.)

This tool is particularly valuable in Europe, where airports often handle high volumes of connecting passengers. With the EU's new Entry/Exit System causing delays at airports this summer, having a reliable estimate for border control can make a real difference. Similarly, the app's ability to factor in e-gate eligibility is useful for EU citizens and others who can use automated passport control at hubs like Rome-Fiumicino or Barcelona-El Prat.

Beyond Connections: Flighty Passport and Other Features

For aviation enthusiasts, Flighty offers a feature called Flighty Passport. Similar to Spotify Wrapped but for air travel, it lets users log their entire flight history. The app then calculates total hours in the air, distance flown, and the number of airlines and airports used. It also provides details about aircraft, including type, age, and tail number.

This data-driven approach appeals to frequent flyers across Europe, from business travelers connecting through Zurich to holidaymakers transiting through Lisbon. The app's focus on predictability aligns with broader efforts to improve the travel experience, such as AirTags reducing lost luggage by 90% at European airports.

Flighty's new connection assistant is available now for Pro users. While it cannot eliminate delays caused by volcanic ash clouds over Catania or other disruptions, it offers a clearer picture of what lies ahead. For travelers navigating the continent's complex network of airports, that clarity is a welcome relief.
